Netflix is bringing the beloved manga series “Yu Yu Hakusho” to life in a live-action adaptation, and the release date is just around the corner.
This news comes following the success of Netflix’s live-action “One Piece” series, which debuted earlier this summer. Netflix is now making significant progress on various other live-action adaptations that have been in development. Among them is a highly-anticipated reimagining of Yoshihiro Togashi’s iconic “Yu Yu Hakusho” manga, celebrated as one of the greatest action series of all time.
As the “Yu Yu Hakusho” anime marked its 30th anniversary recently, fans can look forward to a new live-action rendition of Yusuke Urameshi’s adventures as a Spirit Detective. Netflix has released a concise teaser for this forthcoming live-action “Yu Yu Hakusho” series, along with the exciting news that it will premiere worldwide on December 14th, exclusively on Netflix. What to expect ?
Netflix has joined forces with Shueisha, TOHO, and ROBOT for the live-action adaptation of “Yu Yu Hakusho,” with Sho Tsukikawa in the director’s chair. Kazutaka Sakamoto, known for his work on “Aggretsuko” and “Devilman Crybaby,” takes on the role of executive producer, while Teru Morii serves as the producer. The cast for the live-action “Yu Yu Hakusho” currently features Takumi Kitamura as Yusuke Urameshi, Shuhei Uesugi as Kazama Kuwabara, Jun Shison as Kurama, and Kanata Hongo as Hiei.
Netflix provides a glimpse of the live-action “Yu Yu Hakusho” series with the following description: “The manga follows the story of Yusuke Urameshi, a junior high school student who frequently finds himself in confrontations and meets an untimely end while trying to protect a young child. Faced with the surreal realization of looking down at his own lifeless body, a mysterious woman named Botan, who identifies herself as a guide to the spirit world, delivers the shocking revelation.
It turns out that no one anticipated a troubled youth like Yusuke would die while performing a selfless act, leaving him in a predicament with no place in either heaven or hell. Consequently, Yusuke is granted a second chance at life, and upon successfully passing a trial, he assumes the role of an Underworld Detective. This marks the beginning of Yusuke’s entanglement in a enigmatic web of intrigue that spans the human, demon, and spirit realms. The captivating journey of Yusuke is now set to unfold as a live-action series on Netflix.”
