Through a ground-breaking partnership with American tech tycoon Elon Musk, billionaire Henry Sy Jr. is launching a countrywide satellite broadband service. Sy and Anthony Almeda, the co-founders of Data Lake Inc., recently reached an agreement with Elon Musk’s Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (SpaceX), the business that owns the Starlink broadband satellite.
Data Lake is now the first Starlink integrator in Southeast Asia and the Philippines.
Because the Philippines is an archipelago, Almeda explained, “connecting our nation to the rest of the world frequently demands substantial infrastructure.”
The late Henry Sy Sr. founded the conglomerate SM Investments, which is involved in market-leading real estate, retail, and banking sectors. Sy is his eldest son. He serves as the chairman of Synergy Grid & Development Philippines, which manages the Philippine National Grid Corporation.
With the largest constellation of satellites in orbit, Starlink is a versatile service that is uniquely suited to offer the Philippines high-bandwidth, dependable internet, even during natural disasters, he continued.
SpaceX will use Starlink to launch thousands of satellites into low Earth orbit, creating a constellation of spacecraft that can beam high-speed internet to remote regions of the world.
In the Philippines, monthly premiums for commercial coverage begin at $99 per month.
In difficult-to-reach, remote locations on land, at sea, and in the air, Starlink achieves game-changing connectivity, according to Jonathan Hofeller, vice president of Starlink sales at SpaceX.
