Today is the official launch date for the Huawei Pocket S in China. According to rumors, the Huawei P50 Pocket, which was unveiled in December of last year and is powered by the Snapdragon 888 4G chip, will be replaced by the Pocket S.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and 8+ Gen 1 chipsets, which are both available in the Chinese market, power the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Motorola Razr 22 flip phones, respectively. The Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 processor will be found in the OPPO Find N Flip, which is scheduled to go on sale in December of this year.

Huawei chose to debut the Pocket S as a non-flagship product while other brands chose to introduce clamshell phones with flagship specifications.

The Huawei Pocket S will feature a 6.9-inch foldable OLED panel with a punch-hole positioned in the middle, according to a Weibo tweet by a Chinese tipster (via TechGoing).

The display will have 10-bit colors, a refresh rate of 120 Hz, and a resolution of 2790 x 1188 pixels.

It will have a front camera with a resolution of 10.7 megapixels. On the device’s back are two modules with a spherical form.

The first one includes a dual-camera system with a 40-megapixel (primary) and a 13-megapixel (ultra-wide) sensor and an LED flash, and the second one has a 1.04-inch cover display with a 340 x 340-pixel resolution.

The Snapdragon 778G 4G chipset and a 4,000mAh battery with support for 40W charging will be present under the hood of the Huawei Pocket S.

It will come in two configurations: 8 GB RAM + 128 GB storage and 8 GB RAM + 256 GB storage. For security, it will feature a side-facing fingerprint scanner.

The device will run on HarmonyOS 3. It will arrive in shades like Ice Crystal Blue, Cherry Pink, Mint Gren, Frost Silver, Primrose Gold, and Obsidian Black.

To recall, the P50 Pocket came equipped with the Snapdragon 888 chipset and up to 12 GB of RAM. Its rear camera setup is comprised of a 40-megapixel main camera, a 32-megapixel lens, and a 13-megapixel ultra-wide camera.
