Samsung still pushing for SoC glory for 2025: no more Qualcomm chips for their flagships

It seems like Samsung isn’t giving up the dreams of creating their very own in-house chipset for their flagships without the performance and heating issues, and they might achieve that in 2025

Recently, there have been rumors that Samsung’s smartphone division is working on its own flagship chip. According to recent reports, the company may no longer use Exynos chips in its high-end smartphones.

Now, a new rumor suggests that the ‘Galaxy dedicated chip’ will be announced soon. Ice Universe, a reliable Twitter tipster, shared an intriguing tweet on Sunday. According to that tweet, TM Roh will reveal the most recent information about the ‘Galaxy dedicated chip’ at the Galaxy S23 launch event on Feb 1st.

Mr. Roh is the CEO and President of the Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics. Therefore, if he is announcing something new regarding Galaxy mobile devices, the issue has been settled. We have previously heard rumors about a chip designed specifically for the Galaxy.

Samsung would create a special chip that would only be used on the Galaxy smartphone, according to TM Roh’s early April statement. The Google Tensor chip, which will soon make a comeback on the Google Pixel Fold, will be comparable to this. Exynos has been the primary processor in the Galaxy S Series for many years in the majority of regions.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC-powered flagships were only available in North America and China. In a sense, Exynos was seen as a chipset specifically designed for Galaxy devices. But the most recent rumors suggest that the Galaxy S23 series will undergo significant changes.

According to rumors, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset will be overclocked in all Galaxy S23 models. Furthermore, there is a valid reason behind Samsung’s retreat from the Exynos chip for Galaxy flagship models. Samsung and its clients no longer trust silicon bearing the Exynos brand. Having said that, it is currently unclear what Samsung has in mind for the Galaxy-specific chip.

Additionally, as was already mentioned, it might be equipped with the same AI features as the Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 series, which feature Google Tensor processors.

Samsung, however, might make an effort to catch up to Apple’s A-series. If you were unsure whether the Galaxy dedicated chips would succeed, you should keep in mind that Samsung owns a foundry. Only two foundries in the entire world can manufacture cutting-edge 3nm chips, including this one. The other is TSMC, which is primarily recognized for producing chips for Apple.

The primary point is that Samsung can certainly make a chip that is superior to the Exynos Application Processors. Additionally, the Galaxy dedicated chip can undoubtedly compete with Qualcomm and Apple because it has its own foundry in its back pocket.

Furthermore, Samsung is taking its time developing the chip specifically for the Galaxy. According to early reports, the chipset won’t be usable until 2025. This gives the business plenty of time to create something amazing. And if Samsung plays its cards right, this new chipset could elevate the Galaxy line to new heights.
