It’s the first Infinix phone this 2023 that landed in Unbox Diaries Headquarters — will this budget charmer will live up to its expectations? We’ll find out.
Is it worth the jump from 12 all the way to 20 to prove a point: Infinix’s Hot series is on a whole new level, gone were the days of strictly lurking beneath the obscure budget market. The company now has a formidable reputation, and it isn’t afraid to do great leaps anymore.
Presenting the Infinix Hot 20 5G — the new affordable ‘gaming phone’ from the Transsion sub-brand. Inside, there’s the Dimensity 810 chipset that dominated the PH market with Xiaomi’s POCO M4 Pro 5G and more units out there. It’s clear that Infinix waited a bit so it ages well and they can reap the gift of a better-optimized chipset.
UNBOXING AND FIRST IMPRESSIONS
The Hot 20 5G comes in the same green box as most standard Infinix issues, complete with all the most important specs imprinted on the box itself. In short, not that special and not that simple of a packaging.
The Infinix Hot 20 5G’s goodies are the following: a clear case, SIM tray, USB-A to USB-C charging cord, a 33 watts charging cord, some important papers, the classic X-Club dollars, and the phone itself. We can say, it’s a pretty normal box.
It retains the design language from past Infinix Hot 12 Series phones, specifically the Hot 12 Play, emitting some serious grandfather clock vibes. But the color, especially this green colorway is really sweet and nice to look at so there’s that. Also, the camera island plus the whole section that’s untextured is handled tastefully.
The form factor is quite nice and it sticks with the rounded corners instead of the more trendy boxy design that is cumbersome and not ergonomic. Keep in mind, the Infinix Hot 20 5G is an all-plastic build but it has heft, and can the back feels like it’s made from metal so that’s a great thing.
The Infinix logo is tucked on the lower-left part and it screams “maturity”, so that’s really a plus for them.
It has a decent 6.58-inch IPS LCD with a whopping 120Hz refresh rate, which is nice if you’re looking for a great user experience. But the punch-hole is gone, so that’s a compromise for sure since the cheaper Hot 12 Play has one.
