Apple to adapt reverse wireless charging on upcoming models

While reverse wireless charging has been a common feature on a bunch of Android phones, the feature is still not available for the iPhone, but not any much longer, hopefully. According to reports, Apple is progressing with the development of reverse wireless charging for the upcoming iPhone 15 Ultra.

The Huawei was the first ever to introduce reverse wireless charging in 2018. In 2019, Samsung included the function, known as Power Share, to the Galaxy S10 series. By laying your phone screen down on a table and the device being charged back to back with your phone, the feature transforms the back of your phone into a wireless charging pad that allows you to charge the phones of friends and family members.

Many Android phones, including the Pixel 6 and 7 lines, support reverse wireless charging, however the iPhone still does not. Apple failed to reach the timeframe it set for itself to integrate the function with the iPhone 14 Pro range last year, according to 9to5Mac.

There has been talk that Apple’s smartphones were released in 2019 just one update away from having the feature activated ever since the launching of the iPhone 11 series. But sadly, there has never been a new update. And the capability was never made available with the iPhone 14 series by Apple. That may alter, though, as sources tell 9to5Mac that Apple engineers are still developing the functionality and making the required software optimizations.

According to reports, Apple is attempting to coordinate the charging speeds between the iPhone and the device being charged, deal with heat dissipation, and other challenging aspects of developing the function.

An interface for reverse wireless charging that is similar to the one used with Apple’s MagSafe magnetic charging system is also reportedly being developed by the business. To show that the reverse wireless charging feature is being used, it would contain specific animations and sounds.

With the release of the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Ultra versions this year, reverse wireless charging on the iPhone may finally be possible. It would serve as yet additional persuasion for purchasers of the more expensive iPhone 15 Pro series handsets.
