According to various sources, OPPO and OnePlus might leave Europe due to the high cost of sales in the region. Max Jambor, a well-trusted source, confirmed that they will likely first leave Germany, the UK, France, and then the Netherlands.
Additionally, macroeconomic reasons such as the Russia-Ukraine war and rising inflation have led to a drop in consumption power. This resulted in plummeting smartphone shipments.
OPPO and OnePlus’s response
OPPO’s spokesperson stated that business in the EU is normal at present. The company’s decision not to launch the Find X6 series in Europe this year has raised many questions.
“The European market has always been one of our key markets. We have made a good start in the European market in 2023, and our business in Europe is as usual. With the successful launch of Find N2 Flip in London and the presentation of our latest technologies and products at MWC 2023, OPPO will continue to focus on user needs and provide more innovative products and services.“
On the other hand, OnePlus also gave this official statement:
” OnePlus will not exit from Europe and the UK and maintains stable operations in local markets. OnePlus will continue to invest in Europe and provide more innovative products and solutions for its users.“
Some people think this could mean that OPPO is planning to stop selling phones in Europe. However, OPPO has said that everything is normal, so it’s unclear what’s going on.
Furthermore, the company has had legal trouble in Europe before, with a patent infringement lawsuit from Nokia. This led to OnePlus phones being banned in Germany. If OPPO indeed exits the European market, it would leave Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi, Google, and Motorola dominating the region.
Samsung and Xiaomi would probably reign in the Android smartphone market, as they have the most significant market share.
Overall, the situation appears to be bad news for OPPO and its sub-brands, as they are leaving a significant market. The move may also affect the competition in the smartphone market, with fewer players vying for market share in Europe
