Twitter Encrypted DMs launched as part of the $8 Subscription!

Ever since Elon Musk took over Twitter, things have only seemed to be going south. The company has just announced that they will be launching Twitter Encrypted DMS for the paying subscribers.

If you’re not willing to cough up at least $8 a month for Twitter Blue, then Twitter Encrypted DMs will remain a fantasy for you. And sorry, group chat enthusiasts, but for now, encrypted messages are limited to one-to-one conversations.

While Twitter Encrypted DMs could be step in the right direction, they come with a few limitations. First off, they don’t offer any protection against “man-in-the-middle attacks.” So, if a third party intercepts your message, they’ll be able to read it.

Apart from that, if Twitter is legally required to do so, they can still compromise the conversation. And let’s not forget that metadata, like who you’re talking to and when you’re talking to them, won’t be encrypted.

It’s hard to say whether this is Twitter’s final decision form when it comes to encrypted DMs. But one thing’s for sure: Twitter users aren’t going to crazy and pay over $8 a month for a feature that’s already available for free on other platforms like WhatsApp, Messenger, Signal, and iMessage. Come on, Twitter, we expect more from you.
