HUAWEI to return to the 5G smartphone market by the end of 2023!

Global news agency Reuters recently reported that technology giant HUAWEI will soon make a comeback in the 5G smartphone marketa

Is this the comeback of HUAWEI 5G smartphones?

HUAWEI, which was one of the first brands to release a 5G-ready smartphone, was barred from accessing 5G technology due to US sanctions. However, research firms claim that HUAWEI may return to the 5G smartphone industry by the end of the year by procuring its own chips domestically.

HUAWEI will use its own advances in semiconductor design tools along with chipmaking from Semiconductor Manufacturing International Co (SMIC). The company is expected to use SMIC’s N+1 manufacturing process, which is equivalent to 7nm. However, the forecast yield rate of usable chips is below 50 percent, which means that 5G chips from SMIC will be costly.

HUAWEI and SMIC did not respond to a request for comment. Last month, HUAWEI denied a report stating that it will be supplied with a 5G Qualcomm chipset. The possible reason behind that is this new report that they will be making their own 5G chips without US parts.
