Qualcomm Snapdragon X to compete against Apple M2

This year’s Snapdragon Summit will unveil the new Qualcomm Snapdragon X of Oryon CPU.

Qualcomm has dropped the gauntlet and it’s directed at another tech giant in the US. The semiconductor mainstay has announced its next-generation processor for PCs called the Snapdragon X series, based on Qualcomm Oryon CPU.

The company isn’t a stranger in the PC market as it already produced the Snapdragon 8cx lineup, running the likes of Samsung Galaxy Book2 Pro 360 5G and Dell Inspiron 14. But to reach the pinnacle of the PC market, Qualcomm must launch something that can challenge the big boss: Apple.

However, as per an interview, it was claimed that Oryon (eight cores) performed slightly better than M2 cores. Impressive but that’s not everything, especially in real-world performance.

If Qualcomm succeeds to beat Apple’s M2 even by a margin is a big win for the Windows PC industry. That will also accelerate Qualcomm’s lead in the laptop market, possibly lure several brand manufacturers.

Besides the Oryon CPU, the Snapdragon X series features GPU and NPU. The latter means the neural processing unit that directly suggests AI. This is important to know because Microsoft is rumored to be brewing Windows 12, which will be focused on AI.

The power and efficiency of Snapdragon X will determine its presence in PCs running Windows 12. But we have to wait later this month for the yearly Snapdragon Summit to get more details about this new chipset.

The Snapdragon Summit is happening in Maui, Hawaii from October 24 to 26.
