Android 14 update ruining storage access of some Pixel 6 owners, according to reports.
Whenever a new major OS version comes out, everyone wants a piece of it right away. So, when Android 14 was launched, many Google Pixel owners were overjoyed because of the new features and improvements.
Pixel 6 and even Pixel 7 owners commended how Android 14 resolved issues related to thermals and battery life. Unfortunately, some encountered far worse than those known problems.
They didn’t experience overheating and battery troubles but they got locked out of their phone’s storage. As per report, the Android 14 patch for Pixel 6 was claimed to have done the following:
- Some lost access to their phone’s internal storage.
- Apps may not work incorrectly due to this loss of access.
- Apps may not download data because of the lack of access.
- Files app can’t correct the issue.
- Files app only showed the storage used as zero.
- Random app crashes.
- Storage is full notification.
So, what’s the cause? The preliminary finding is the common factor across affected users: multiple user profiles. Meanwhile, several Redditors were disappointed by the lack of actions from Google.
The takeaway is avoid Android 14 if you’re on Google Pixel 6 and using multiple user profiles. You should wait till a permanent fix is rolled out, but Google is yet to acknowledge the issue.
If you’re already locked out, a factory reset may be the last option. Though, it’s only recommended if you don’t have any important stuff stored in your device.
