An iPhone with no camera? A recent Reddit post generated confusion among users

A recent image shared on the social media platform Reddit has sparked discussion regarding a purported “camera-less iPhone.” The image depicts a phone with an Apple logo but lacks the prominent camera module typically found on iPhones. This absence of a camera has generated confusion among users.

Ordinarily, iPhone cameras are readily identifiable due to their increasing size and prominence on the back of the device. Pro models currently boast three cameras, while standard models typically have two.

The Reddit user who shared the image claims the phone belongs to “a buddy that works at a nuclear plant,” where cameras on personal devices may be prohibited due to security concerns. The user cites a 2020 report by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) that acknowledges potential security risks associated with smart devices in nuclear facilities.

However, the authenticity of the phone’s origin remains unclear. Some Reddit users speculate that third-party companies might modify iPhones by removing cameras to cater to specific industries with camera restrictions. However, others contend that Apple does not manufacture camera-less iPhones and suggest the user might be mistaken.

While Apple currently offers no iPhones without cameras, the concept has garnered some interest. A separate Reddit thread features a user inquiring about the possibility of purchasing a camera-less iPhone for their spouse due to workplace restrictions.

While disabling the Camera app through iPhone Restrictions is an option, physically removing the cameras is not feasible without compromising the device’s warranty.

The image’s legitimacy remains unconfirmed. It serves as a reminder of the evolving security considerations regarding personal devices in specific environments.
