ASUS announces ROG Strix Scar G16/G18 and Strix G16/G18 laptops with i9 14900HX and RTX 4000 series GPUs

ASUS’s Republic of Gamers (ROG) has unveiled an expanded gaming laptop lineup at CES 2024, introducing the highly anticipated 2024 versions of the Strix Scar 18, Strix Scar 16, Strix G18, and Strix G16 models. Each of these cutting-edge laptops promises exceptional features and top-tier performance.

The standout offering in this series is the Strix Scar 18, marking ROG’s inaugural 18-inch laptop. It boasts the revolutionary mini LED ROG Nebula HDR Display, featuring over 2000 discrete dimming zones, a peak brightness of 1100 nits, and a 2.5K resolution with a 240Hz refresh rate—delivering vibrant and immersive gaming experiences.

All models within the 2024 Strix family are powered by the latest Intel Core i9 processor 14900HX, a formidable 24-core, 32-thread CPU capable of handling demanding tasks and AAA games.

The Strix Scar 16 and Scar 18 are equipped with up to an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 Laptop GPU with a 175 W max TGP, while the Strix G16 and G18 models feature the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 Laptop GPU, delivering exceptional rendering performance and supporting AI tools like DLSS Super Resolution and Frame Generation.

Efficient cooling is prioritized through Tri-Fan technology and the application of Conductonaut Extreme liquid metal to both the CPU and GPU. This advanced cooling system ensures the laptops maintain peak performance over extended usage periods.

In terms of memory and storage, the Strix family supports up to 64 GB of DDR5 memory and up to 4 TB PCIe Gen4 x4 storage, catering to the needs of gamers and creators requiring high-speed multitasking and ample storage space.

The design has undergone a refreshing transformation, featuring bold ROG accents and a cyberpunk aesthetic. Connectivity options abound, including Thunderbolt 4, USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports, HDMI 2.1, and a 3.5 mm combo audio jack, accompanied by WiFi 6E and Bluetooth v5.3 support. All laptops are powered by a 90 Wh battery and run on Windows 11 Pro.

The ASUS ROG Strix Scar G16 and G18 models, while sharing hardware similarities with the Scar 16 and 18, distinguish themselves with varying weights and screen sizes, with the G18 boasting an 18-inch display and the G16 featuring a 16-inch display.

Both models offer a resolution of 2560×1600, a 240Hz refresh rate, 3ms gray-to-gray response time, and cover 100% of the DCI-P3 color gamut—making them appealing to both gamers and content creators. All six laptops in the lineup come with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos support, a backlit chiclet keyboard, and per-key RGB lighting with Aura Sync.

The ROG Strix Scar laptops are scheduled for release later in January, with the 16-inch version starting at $2,899.99(~₱163,162.97) and the 18-inch model at $2,999.99(~₱168,791.22). The pricing details for Strix models are yet to be disclosed.
