Yes, you read that right! Twitter is cleaning out their closet and getting rid of all those inactive accounts! And you know what that means? A whole bunch of sweet usernames that have been MIA might be up for grabs!
Elon Musk himself tweeted about it, saying that Twitter is getting rid of inactive Twitter Accounts that haven’t been touched in years. But watch out, because your follower count might take a hit. If you’re lucky, you could get a cool username that’s been locked up for ages. But we don’t know how you’ll actually be able to get your hands on it yet.
We’re purging accounts that have had no activity at all for several years, so you will probably see follower count drop

Apparently, Musk has been trying to free up usernames for a while now. Maybe he thinks it’ll bring back some of the people who ditched Twitter for other platforms. After all, Twitter has been facing some tough competition lately, from Mastodon, Bluesky, and even some discussion features on other sites. But who knows if Musk’s plan will actually work out? He does tend to tweet a lot of big ideas that never quite come to fruition.
One thing people are wondering about is what will happen to the Inactive Twitter Accounts of people who’ve passed away. Will Twitter delete those, too? Or will they be able to memorialize them in some way? We’ll have to wait and see what happens. But for now, keep your eyes peeled for those sweet usernames that might finally be up for grabs!
