SMART has finally ended Globe’s seven-year subscriber streak.
The two dominant mobile telecommunications companies have been at it for decades, but only one comes out on top in recent years.
Now, SMART is leading the mobile market in terms of subscribers, as per report. The PLDT wireless arm has broken the seven-year streak of Globe Telecoms.
SMART revealed that it has 55.2 million subscribers following the SIM card registration, slightly higher than the 54.7 million of Globe.
Before this, Globe had 84.75 million SIM cards, higher than 66.3 million of SMART.
“It is a humbling experience. There is a big task ahead on the revenue side. I don’t think the battle should be in subscriber number. The game is really your ability to grow the market,” said PLDT chair Manuel Pangilinan.
PLDT president Alfredo Panlilio reported the following achievements as well:
- ₱27.88 billion nine-month net income (1% increase)
- ₱156.36 billion total revenue within the same period (3% increase)
- ₱39.3 billion total fiber revenue growth from January to September (10% increase(
- 210,000 new fiber customers.
- 3.14 million fiber subscribers as of end of September
Panlilio also said that the company acquires more users via initiatives, including eSIMs or SIMs in digital form. SMART is the first to officially launch eSIMs in the Philippines and it comes with up to 21GB of free data; check it out below.
If you have an iPhone 15, SMART also supports eSIM for this series.
