Google is rumored to release Android 14 on the day of the Pixel 8 announcement

October will have Google’s major event!

Android 14 has been in beta testing for quite a while, and initially, Google led us to believe that the final, stable version would be available in August, just like they did with Android 13 last year. However, things took a different turn as more beta versions were added to the release cycle. At that point, most people in the tech world started expecting the stable release to happen in September.

Android 14 is supposedly delayed?

But hold on! Yesterday was Labor Day in the US, which usually means a Google software update comes out on the first Monday of the month unless it’s a US holiday (like yesterday), in which case it’s delayed to the next day. However, the word on the street now is that Google has postponed the stable release to October, and this news came out at the very last minute.

As it stands, the supposed release date is now October 4, which interestingly coincides with Google’s upcoming major hardware event where they’re expected to reveal the Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, and Pixel Watch 2. This would be quite unusual since Google typically launches new products at least a month or two before their hardware announcements.

We don’t have clear information about why this delay occurred, but things haven’t been going smoothly in the world of Android 14 for a few weeks. We started suspecting something was amiss when Google unexpectedly rolled out a fifth beta version. It seems whatever the issue is, it hasn’t been completely resolved yet.

Interestingly, even Google’s phone-making partners thought the release would happen today, which is why some, like OnePlus, announced their own plans to release Android 14 stable updates later this month. It’s uncertain what will happen to those plans now.

Remember, all of this is based on rumors, and there’s still a chance that Google could surprise us by releasing Android 14 before October 4. Let’s wait and see how it unfolds.
