The upcoming Google Pixel Fold smartphone is rumored to deviate from the Tensor G3 chipset and opt for the more advanced Tensor G4.
Expected to power the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro upon their October release, the Pixel Fold’s potential inclusion of the Tensor G4 suggests it may debut alongside its Pixel counterparts.
While the initial anticipation for the successor to the original Pixel Fold pointed towards a May launch at Google I/O, this latest rumor challenges that expectation. If accurate, the Pixel Fold could coincide with the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro, breaking cover in October.
Considering the historical performance of Google’s Tensor chipsets, which have not set records, the decision to wait a few months for an upgraded chip for the new Fold appears to be a strategic move. Adding to the intrigue, reports suggest that Google is testing the Pixel Fold 2 with a remarkable 16GB of RAM—surpassing any previous Pixel model. Additionally, the device is said to feature UFS 4.0 storage, a notable improvement from the UFS 3.1 storage present in the original Pixel Fold.
While leaks have surfaced regarding the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro, the absence of information about the Pixel Fold raises curiosity and indirectly supports the credibility of the current rumor.
