HUAWEI, a significant player in the foldable phone market, is reportedly gearing up to elevate its efforts by developing a triple-folding phone, slated for a potential launch in the second quarter of 2024.
Multiple sources, including Taiwan’s TechNews, indicate that Huawei has initiated extensive material procurement for this ambitious project.
The triple-folding phone is anticipated to feature a Z-shaped or S-shaped folding design, maintaining a screen size comparable to other foldable phones, approximately 6.4 inches. BOE is purportedly the panel supplier, with Zhaoli and Fusda involved in hinge production.
HUAWEI’s exploration of triple-folding display technology has been ongoing, marked by patent filings dating back to 2021 and additional submissions in March and July 2022. Although earlier suggestions hinted at a possible release by the end of 2023, recent reports indicate potential delays, with the second quarter of 2024 now considered a feasible launch timeframe.
The development aligns with a projected surge in demand for foldable phones. Despite falling short of expectations in 2023 (15.7 million units), analysts anticipate a 12.3% year-on-year growth to 17.7 million units in 2024.
Collaboration with suppliers for the triple-folding device, confirmed by the Associated Press, suggests that HUAWEI is advancing toward mass production. While specific details remain undisclosed, HUAWEI’s foray into the triple-folding market promises exciting prospects for foldable phone enthusiasts, and we will continue to provide updates on this development.
