You no longer have to worry about crippling your iPhone 15 because you overcharge it.
iPhones and other smartphones have one permanent partner – a power plug. Depending on how you use your iPhone, you may need to charge it more than once a day. But sometimes, users will charge it overnight so that it has enough juice the next morning. This is also the reason why phone batteries degrade quickly.
After a long wait, Apple finally implements a battery protection feature on the iPhone 15. It’s called Battery Charge Limit and as its name suggests, it will limit the maximum battery charge to help preserve battery life and extend its overall health.
The feature was detected on a code in iOS 17 RC and it would be located in the Battery settings menu of the iPhone 15 series.
This feature can be turned off and on. If disabled, the iPhone 15 user will get a message saying that it “will charge to its full capacity.” If enabled, the user will be notified that it “will only charge to about X%.” That means you can customize the percentage at which the charging stops to protect the iPhone 15’s battery.
The feature isn’t new as many Android smartphones and other gadgets have implemented this to increase battery lifespan. Manufacturers even went beyond by optimizing battery life based on the user’s battery charging pattern.
iPhone 15 users will definitely feel good about this new addition. However, can owners of older iPhones say the same? Apple has no word yet if the same feature will arrive on older units.
