Lexar introduces world’s first 512GB NM Card for HUAWEI smartphones

Lexar has just unveiled a groundbreaking 512GB NM Card designed specifically for HUAWEI mobile devices, with a special focus on the Mate 60 Series.

Notably, this NM card is compatible with various HUAWEI product lines, including the Mate, P, Nova, and Enjoy Series, as well as tablets and other devices.

It’s important to understand that this NM card represents a novel storage format created exclusively by HUAWEI. It’s a mere 34% smaller than the conventional memory cards you typically find on the market. Think of it as being roughly the size of a Nano SIM card. Moreover, it can share the SIM slot, making it convenient to use, and it features a plug-and-play capability.

Developing a high-capacity, ultra-compact memory card like this one posed significant technical challenges, including issues related to storage density, manufacturing complexity, durability, and cost. Achieving greater storage capacity in such a compact form factor requires advanced manufacturing techniques and highly precise controllers, which significantly raise the complexity and cost of production.

Lexar points out that if the card is too thick, it won’t fit properly in devices like mobile phones, and if it’s too thin, it could be vulnerable to damage from external forces.

Despite these hurdles, Lexar’s research and development team managed to enhance storage density using top-quality storage components and modern flash memory technology, resulting in the world’s first 512GB NM Card memory card.

This NM Card supports the eMMC 5.1 protocol and offers stable and mature performance, with impressive read speeds of up to 90MB/s and write speeds of up to 85MB/s. These speeds make the NM Card well-suited for high-speed continuous recording and meeting the demands of smartphone shooting, including FHD and even 4K video.

In addition to the 512GB version, Lexar will also release 128GB and 256GB variants of the NM Card. While pricing details are not available at this time, Lexar is expected to make an announcement soon. We’ll keep you updated on any news regarding the availability of these cards in the Philippines.
