Meet “AK” – the first Filipino Tekken player to win an international title (in Tekken 8)

Alexandre “AK” Laverez has won the Combo Breaker 2024 – T8.

The Combo Breaker 2024 Tekken 8 has a champion and it’s none other than Alexandre “AK” Laverez. He’s the first Filipino to ever win an international title in the pro scene of the popular fighting game Tekken 8.

AK outlasted the reigning Tekken World Tour titleholder Arslan Ash 3-2 in the grand finals of the Combo Breaker 2024 – T8. Before the finals, AK’s run was undefeated up to the Top 24, during which he defeated top competitors, including Jeong “Rangchu” Hyeon-ho of South Korea and Muhammad “Farzeen” Farzeen of Pakistan.

Also from Pakistan, Arslan Ash is a force to be reckoned with in the Tekken esports scene. Not only is he the titlist of the Tekken World Tour, but he’s also a four-time (EVO) Evolution Championship Series champion.

However, the duel between these two talented players was decided by AK’s deadly combo with Shaheen versus Ash’s Nina. AK won USD 9,300 or PHP 69,000 and 560 points for the Tekken World Tour 2024. He’s in third place in the current standings with 860 points.

In 2013, AK won bronze in the Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Global Championship. He beat contenders like Nobi from Japan and Help-Me!! from Korea. He was 13 at the time.

He also earned podium finishes in other major events, such as the SEA Major Singapore 2018, EVO Japan 2019, and the Tekken World Tour Finals 2019 LCQ. He even represented the Philippines at the 2019 SEA Games where he won silver in the esports category for Tekken 7.

AK is a Tekken prodigy and we can’t wait for his rematch with Ash in the Tekken World Tour 2024.
