Qualcomm expands its mobile processor portfolio with the announcement of the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3. This chip builds upon the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3, offering significant improvements, particularly in AI capabilities.
A Step Up in Performance
The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 utilizes the same 4nm manufacturing process as its predecessor but borrows the CPU architecture from the flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. This translates to a prime core, four performance cores, and three efficiency cores, albeit with slightly lower clock speeds. Despite this, Qualcomm boasts a 15% CPU performance increase, a 45% improvement in GPU performance, and a 15% boost in power efficiency.
Connectivity and Speed
The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 comes equipped with the X63 5G modem and the FastConnect 7800 mobile connectivity system, enabling peak download speeds of up to 4.2 Gbps. Additionally, it supports the next-generation Wi-Fi 7 standard.
AI Powerhouse for the Mid-Range
The most striking feature of the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 is its focus on on-device AI. The processor supports various large language models (LLMs) like Baichuan-7B, Llama 2, and Gemini Nano, promising enhanced virtual assistants, improved multi-language translation, and advanced transcription capabilities on future phones powered by this chip.
Enhanced Multimedia Features
The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 boasts an 18-bit triple cognitive ISP, capable of capturing stunning photos at resolutions up to 200MP. It also incorporates features like Snapdragon Low Light Vision for exceptional low-light photography. Audio enthusiasts will appreciate the inclusion of Spatial Audio with head tracking, Snapdragon Sound technology, and support for cutting-edge codecs like aptX Lossless and LE audio.
The display capabilities are impressive too, supporting QHD+ resolutions with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. Additionally, the chip supports up to 24GB of LPDDR5x RAM and a UFS 4.0 storage system for a truly responsive user experience.
Early Adoption
The OnePlus Ace 3V in China has already become the first smartphone to utilize the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 processor, showcasing its potential in real-world applications.
