Samsung & Cherry reign as Philippine tablet market shrinks

Philippine tablet market declines, but hope emerges

Source: IDC

The Philippine tablet market has experienced a significant decline, according to the International Data Corporation (IDC). Their report shows a 39.8% drop in 2023, bringing shipments down to just over 750,000 units. This marks a return to pre-pandemic levels and the lowest annual total since 2012.

Angela Medez, Senior Market Analyst at IDC Philippines, attributes the decline to reduced local tablet shipments, which averaged over a million units annually between 2020 and 2023.

However, there are some positive signs. The fourth quarter of 2023 saw a 35.1% sequential growth, driven by new launches from various vendors. Notably, Samsung’s Galaxy Tab A9 and S9 FE series alone accounted for nearly 40% of the quarter’s shipments.

Looking forward, IDC anticipates a potential contraction in commercial tablet shipments during 2024. However, the recent growth suggests a continued consumer interest in the market, particularly with new and innovative offerings.
