Wave 89.1, known for its R&B, hip-hop, and rhythmic contemporary music, first hit the airwaves in 1975 as KB 89.1. They acknowledged the outpouring of listener stories about how the station impacted their lives, stating, “the feels are real.”
The station also expressed gratitude to its team, including DJs, managers, and everyone who contributed to Wave 89.1’s success.
While details are scarce, Wave 89.1’s Facebook page now features a map, hinting at upcoming changes. Former program director DannieBoi Farmer confirmed his departure but promised a return “somewhere again soon.”
The closure of Wave 89.1 marks the end of an era for Manila’s radio landscape.
