Apple has confirmed that the iPhone will be moving to USB-C. Apple marketing lead Greg Joswiak told The Wall Street Journal that the corporation will replace the Lighting port even if his staff is unhappy with the change.
The interview also included software VP Craig Federighi, although neither of them specified when the relocation will take place.
The Apple officials stated that “the Europeans are dictating timing for European customers,” which is a smart way of stating nothing regarding the switch’s schedule. Joswiak declined to comment on whether Apple will ship a connector sold outside of the EU, but this appears quite improbable.
The executive also discussed Apple’s commitment to forging its own way and trusting its engineers rather than complying with legislative regulations and using third-party hardware. He also mentioned micro USB and how Apple has been pressed to match ill-conceived regulations.
The marketing lead went on to say that charging bricks with detachable connections solved the issue of uniformity, saying that the changeover to USB-C would generate a lot of e-waste since users would be forced to buy new cables and discard the old ones.
