Google could start Blocking you from Blocking YouTube Ads

You might want to grab your wallet for YouTube Premium now because Google just announced that it’s experimenting with a new feature that will prevent users from activating ad blockers blocking YouTube Ads.

This comes after a tipster, Sazk100, revealed key details of the Google program, coinciding with the 2023 Google I/O conference.

According to Sazk100, users with ad blockers activated will no longer be allowed to watch content on YouTube. Instead, they’ll receive a pop-up message informing them that ad blockers are no longer allowed on the platform. So, what’s the alternative? Well, users can choose to subscribe to YouTube Premium, which not only removes ads but also offers several premium offerings.

Now, the current ad blocker program is just a small experiment, but it could have far-reaching implications. Google says it’s notifying users with ad-blocker applications to allow them to disable the feature, which will then allow ads to run freely on the platform.

But is this a good or bad thing? On one hand, YouTube ads have become increasingly intrusive over the years. Users with ad blockers have been able to enjoy content without ads. On the other hand, Google’s revenue from ads has been on a downward trend, and this new feature could help shore it up.

Interestingly, Google did an experiment last year that seemingly prevented viewers from skipping certain ads. So, it’s clear that the tech giant is trying to find ways to increase revenue while still providing a good user experience. Only time will tell if this new feature is a hit or a miss.
