Top 5 things you need to know before playing Wild Rift if you’re an ML player

You love ML but are curious about Wild Rift? Don’t fret because we’ll help you get along with this MOBA.

Getting tired of the same old heroes and items in Mobile Legends Bang Bang? If you’ve stumbled upon League of Legends: Wild Rift, we have a list that you definitely must read. It contains the things you need to know before you start your Summoner’s Rift journey.

Disclaimer: This article serves as a simple guide for those who don’t have or have little experience with Wild Rift but have played MLBB. The list contains some of the many differences between these games with the sole purpose of highlighting what newbies should expect.

Buying Items

Wild Rift and Mobile Legends have one goal: your team must destroy the primary key structure at the opposing team’s base.

As you progress in a match, your character earns gold and levels up. While these games have many common elements in itemization, there’s a big difference when purchasing gear.

If you’re from Mobile Legends, you can buy anywhere, even at the enemy territory, as long as you have the money. But in Wild Rift, you can only do this at your base’s respawn area. This means you have to recall to buy new stuff or finish an item build.

You may find that a letdown but don’t forget it applies to everyone on the map. Your enemies must do the same to improve their gear. In-lane, your opponent cannot suddenly gain item stats and passives as they can’t buy without recalling. That means, skill and strategy matter more in the laning phase.

Match Speed

Both games are meant for quick matches as opposed to any PC MOBAs. However, Mobile Legends is faster than Wild Rift since the latter still follows the core rules of its PC version.

You can suffocate a single lane on Mobile Legends with a three-man team, but that’s not effective on Wild Rift. The experience and gold will be divided by three, slowing their progress throughout the game while solo laners are getting the resources in full. It will pressure them but the towers are dangerous in the early game.

That said, you have the play game according to its fundamentals before you’re allowed to dictate the flow based on your team’s performance. Thus, Wild Rift matches have a slower pace ranging from 15 to 25 minutes on average.

Vision and Walls

In any MOBA games, vision is critical for it lets you formulate the most optimal offensive or defensive plan. Seeing where your opponents are may give your teammates a gank opportunity or push on their lanes.

In Mobile Legends, you may have noticed that vision isn’t very realistic because you can actually see anyone near you. It doesn’t matter if there are walls as they don’t shroud anyone. Proximity is all that matters and this is great for easy targeting of many skills.

You may take some time to adjust to Wild Rift’s vision rules. Walls conceal enemies hiding on the other side, which is why wards are available. There are two types of wards in Wild Rift: one invisible that decays over time and one visible but permanent unless destroyed.

Emblems vs. Runes

Mobile Legends apply Emblems to improve hero stats without items, helping in the early game. Wild Rift has a similar concept called Runes.

The major difference between these two concepts is the limits. You can upgrade Emblems using certain materials while Runes are fixed regardless of your account level. If you’ve more materials than others, your Emblems are expected to be better during the early game.

Meanwhile, Runes don’t require anyone to invest in them and everyone has the same access. Your advantage or disadvantage will depend on your choices, not levels or upgrades.

Skin Pricing

Who doesn’t love skins? Something shiny, colorful, or flashy, skins are a reason why players keep playing their favorite games, and MOBAs are not exempted to this.

Mobile Legends and Wild Rift have tons of skins to choose from, including those dull ones. However, Wild Rift skins are just more affordable than those on Mobile Legends.

As of writing, these are some of the cheapest skins:

  • Mobile Legends: Alucard Lone Hero costs 299 Diamonds, normal price.
  • Wild Rift: Commando Jarvan IV costs 525 Wild Cores, normal price.

The lowest Diamonds bundle costs ₱20.50 on Mobile Legends and it has 15 Diamonds + 1 bonus. You need to buy that tiny bundle 19 times to get 304 Diamonds at a price of ₱389.5. The closest bundle to that skin’s cost has 250 Diamonds for ₱264.

The lowest Wild Core package on Wild Rift costs ₱149 and it has 305 Wild Cores. You can buy this package twice for ₱298 to yield 610 Wild Cores, enough to buy the skin. You can go for the better package priced at ₱249 to get 510 Wild Cores + 25 bonus, also enough for the skin. Either way, you’ll get leftover Wild Cores.

Fun Games (Bonus)

The standard game mode can be tiresome and boring after getting defeated multiple times in a row. So, seeking for some fun is totally fine and Mobile Legends and Wild Rift got you covered. Among many fun game modes, we picked one from each that we found really good.

The Mayhem mode on Mobile Legends often leads to obnoxious gameplay that can give some laughs. It’s played on the standard 5v5 map but every hero gets a buff, albeit a crazy one. Barats can have incredibly high stacks and Benedetta can dash nonstop, among many others.

The Ultra Rapid Fire mode on Wild Rift offers obnoxious gaming too. All champions have an insane cooldown reduction, thanks to the huge amount of haste. Plus, casting skills costs no mana. Expect sparks, lights, and everything flashy flying in all directions in this mode. It’s a good way to master skill dodging and skill shots.

Final Thoughts

Wild Rift is not similar to Mobile Legends, despite sharing many elements. You have to be mindful of vision control since walls obstruct the line of sight and wards exist to show your location. You also need to time your recall because buying a new item means you must leave the lane.

Expect to get a bit frustrated as you adjust to the game’s concept and mechanics, so play against AI to become familiar with the new rules. Once you get a hang of it, you’ll appreciate the game’s own charisma.
