Apple is currently facing a massive $2 billion lawsuit in London. It is being accused of hiding defective batteries in millions of iPhones.
The lawsuit, brought by consumer champion Justin Gutmann, alleges that Apple “throttled” specific phone models. He claims they did this by secretly installing a power management tool that limited their performance.
According to Gutmann’s lawyers, Apple concealed issues with batteries in specific phone models. Additionally, they only offered free battery replacements for a limited number of iPhone 6s models. However, Apple vehemently denies these allegations, calling the lawsuit “baseless.”
According to Apple, its power management update, introduced in 2017, was designed to manage demands on older batteries or with a low level of charge and only reduced an iPhone 6’s performance by an average of 10%. Additionally, the company claims that it was not misleading its customers about iPhone battery issues, as it issued a public apology in 2017 and offered cheaper battery replacements to affected customers.
Despite Apple’s defense, Gutmann is pushing for the case to proceed to trial, citing the company’s 2020 agreements to settle a U.S. class action and regulatory action by U.S. states over iPhone battery issues as evidence that Apple was not “saying this never happened.” With billions of pounds at stake, this lawsuit is sure to draw significant attention in the tech industry and beyond.
Do you think Gutman will succeed in seeking justice for Apple Tech consumers or he is will fail?
