iPhone 15 now with USB-C but people are angry that 20w charging is still slow

USB-C is officially part of iPhone 15 yet its charging is turtle speed at best. Is there any trick for this?

Want an iPhone 15 or have already bought one? Either way, you probably celebrated the fact that iPhone 15 has finally joined the USB-C family. That’s great in many ways, at a glance though. This is because the USB-C version installed on iPhone 15 base and iPhone 15 Pro is not impressive in charging terms.

Both iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus feature USB-C 2, which is great for legacy devices. It can charge devices at a rate of 2.5w and transfer data at a speed of 480 megabytes per second max. Today, that charge rate is very slow and it will take iPhones and other smartphones hours to reach full battery. But it won’t heat them up when charging.

Meanwhile, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max feature USB-C 3. Apple noted that these devices can transfer data via USB at a rate of 10 gigabytes per second max. That’s twice the speed of the very first USB 3, so it may mean that the Pro line has USB-C 3.2 gen 2. But we’ll never know until Apple reveals the truth.

The reception about the 20w charging did get a warm welcome, obviously. Many users found the “upgrade” disappointing.

One user highlighted the similar charging speed between iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Another pinpointed at the exclusive USB 3 speed on iPhone Pro Max but dismayed about the charge capping.

Meanwhile, a user was hinted at the new training of Apple retail staff to offer USB-C charging accessories for iPhone 15 at point-of-sale.

The tech company claims that the iPhone 15 series can charge up to 50% in 30 minutes with a 20-watt adapter or higher, which is sold separately.

So, any tricks? Well, if you have a fast-charging adapter from Android, you may fast charge your iPhone 15. Also, expect a mechanism in these devices that prevents them from getting more power unless the charger is from Apple.
