Netflix removes Basic ad-free plan in other countries

In a move to reach a wider audience, Netflix introduced a cheaper ad-supported tier in 2022 for $7/CAD $6/GBP £5/EUR €6. This change comes alongside the removal of their previous cheapest ad-free plan (Basic), prompting users to choose between the new ad tier or the remaining ad-free options (Standard FHD: $15.50 and Premium 4K: $23.00).

The ad-supported plan has proven successful, attracting 40 million subscribers despite not being available in all regions yet. However, there are some trade-offs:

  • Limited content: A small number of shows and movies are unavailable due to licensing restrictions.
  • Targeted advertising: Ads will be shown, but not on Kids profiles or Netflix Games.

To see current plans and pricing in your region, visit this page. You can use the dropdown menu to explore options in different countries. Notably, the Basic plan is no longer listed in the US, Canada, UK, Germany,France, Australia, and others.
