From tears to fierce, rags to riches, tiger to…nevermind– the important part is there’s a future after being memed to death
Unisoc (formerly Spreadtrum), one of the rising semiconductor manufacturers in the world known for their chipsets in the budget category is now ‘ready to jump into the flagship space’ with their new and improved Tiger series.
But there’s another surprise: the Filipino viral sensation, lovingly known as “Tiger” (real name not known), a drunken college student that ranted after the teacher in the video tried to ward him off for being on the influence of alcohol and entering the class outside his shift.
The famous ‘Tiger’ moniker sprung out after he called the security guard who tried to calm him down with that name. It became so synonymous with the guy himself that netizens started calling him that.
Unisoc CEO Ren Qiwei explained, “Maybe we need a fresh new perspective within the Unisoc branding. When one of our board directors showed me (the) Tiger (video), I was instantly hooked. The confidence, bravado, and grit— just the right personality for the company that is trying to reinvent hugely.”
After some investigation, we found out the “Tiger’s” real name is Kevin. Though some call him Kevin Maoy because of his drunken state in the video. Unisoc paid for his travel and expenses to Shanghai, passport requirements, and even hired a real tiger to hug him in a series of promotional images.
When we asked Kevin Tiger about this, he told us that “he’s very glad to be the face of the Unisoc Tiger series, and is so thrilled to be a part of a tech ‘revolution’. When I became a meme, I was so ashamed that people were making fun of me. But now, I embrace it and look at what has gotten with my career– I’m the new ambassador of Unisoc.”
After that, he scurried away while holding a six-pack can of Tsingtao to his hotel room. Fifteen minutes later, we found out that he entered the wrong hotel room and asked the couple Jin-bei Fang (36), and Xiao Qi (34) why they were kicking him out. Another hotel personnel tried to resolve the issue only to be called ‘Dragon’ this time by Kevin “Tiger” Maoy.
“Kita mo ‘yan, Dragon?! Sinisigawan ako Dragon e, aalis na nga ako e!” (Did you see it, Dragon? They were shouting at me, I was about to get out!)
Unisoc CEO Ren Qiwei was asked about the skirmish: “That’s why we love (Kevin) Tiger, he’s bold and brash– the perfect representative for the brand.”
The Unisoc Tiger Premium launch will be held in Shanghai on August 1, 2023, and will also feature performances from Carlos Agassi singing his hit single “Milk Tea” live with Wowkie Zhang, the artist behind “Sunshine, Rainbow, White Pony” (Naega Nae Naega) and a special ‘panty dropper’ game available starting midnight of day one of the events hosted by Ch4knu.
