Apple has developed a new method for updating iPhones to the latest iOS version while they are still sealed in the box.
This will be done using a “pad-like device” that Apple employees will use in Apple stores. To update an iPhone, an employee will simply place the unopened box on the pad. The pad will then wirelessly turn on the iPhone, update the software, and then turn the iPhone off again.
This new method is expected to improve the customer experience and reduce the time it takes to purchase a new iPhone. Previously, customers would need to open the box and turn on the iPhone before they could update the software. This new method will allow customers to take their new iPhone home and start using it immediately, knowing that it is running the latest and most secure version of iOS.
The new pad-like devices are expected to be rolled out to Apple stores before the end of 2023.
