Speculation surrounding the development of a foldable iPhone has persisted for several years, yet no concrete evidence suggests that Apple is actively pursuing such a device
Recently, YouTuber Lewis Hilsenteger, known as Unbox Therapy, shared a video featuring what appeared to be a prototype of a foldable iPhone. This device featured a triple rear camera setup resembling the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, and it folded in a manner similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5.
However, upon closer examination, it became evident that this device was not an authentic Apple product; rather, it was designed to mimic a clamshell-style iPhone, bearing a subpar hinge and a “cover display” roughly the same size as the camera module. This starkly contrasted with foldable Android phones, which typically offer more spacious cover displays.
It is plausible that the device Hilsenteger showcased was a mockup created by a third-party manufacturer, or it might have been an elaborate hoax. Therefore, the question arises: Does Apple genuinely have plans for a foldable iPhone?
While the possibility exists, there exists no concrete evidence to substantiate this claim. Nevertheless, reports indicate that Apple has filed patents relating to foldable screen technology and screen protection for potential foldable iPhones or iPads.
Should Apple indeed be working on a foldable iPhone, it is likely that such a product remains several years away from an official release. Meanwhile, manufacturers in the Android ecosystem have been prolifically launching foldable phones. Samsung, for instance, has introduced its latest foldable models, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5, while other companies like Motorola and Oppo have also entered the foldable phone market.
Ultimately, whether Apple will eventually unveil a foldable iPhone remains a topic of speculation at this stage.
