Newbies of X should prepare a small amount to enjoy the platform in full.
X (formerly Twitter) has launched the “Not A Bot” program to combat the bot plague on the platform.
Although the idea seems great at a glance, real human users will have to pay the price, literally.
According to the official website of X, the program was initiated on October 17 with a new subscription for new users in two countries: New Zealand and the Philippines.
The company claims that “this new test was developed to bolster our already significant efforts to reduce spam, manipulation of our platform and bot activity.”
When registering a new account in these countries, you need to verify your phone number. Once done, you must choose your subscription plan, which costs ₱42.51 per year. It’s not expensive since the fee is only once every year, but many will probably ask why they need to pay to fight bots.
You can also choose not to pay in exchange for “read only” actions. You can only follow accounts, read posts, and watch videos for this “free” account.
As of writing, the program is still in the testing phase but there’s no date indicating how long the company will test it.
Also, existing users and those outside of both countries are not affected by the program.
