Around November 2022, Apple is reportedly going to add two gadgets to its ‘obsolete’ device list. If the report is correct, the iPhone 5C and iPad mini 4 will be the most recent additions to this list of defunct devices.
For those who are unaware, the Cupertino-based company usually refers to an item as “vintage” when it has been five years since its formal launch.
However, when a product reaches the age of seven years, the corporation designates it as ‘obsolete.’ In a similar move, Apple recently proclaimed that the iPhone 6 was a vintage gadget from the brand.
The iPhone 5c, which was released in September 2013, appears to be the most recent smartphone to join this list.
That’s not really surprising given that the iPhone 5c itself is well over nine years old. The device was released in 2013 as a cheaper expensive version of Apple’s flagship, the iPhone 5s.
On the other hand, the iPad Mini 4 fulfilled a similar purpose by having a smaller screen as a tablet (7.9 inches) and a reduced price tag when compared to larger iPad models at the time. This model was also geared more towards leisure consumers than creative types.
Whenever a device is placed on the list of ‘obsolete’ devices, it indicates that the company will no longer provide hardware support for these items. Software support for these devices has already ceased, but the brand will no longer provide paid repair services.
