How can MediaTek Dimensity 9300 beat Snapdragon 8 Gen 3?

The architecture of the Dimensity 9300 will help MediaTek overcome its greatest competition.

For many years, Qualcomm dominated the mobile phone market industry by supplying near-unbeatable chipset offerings to high, mid, and low tier brands. The company remains a powerhouse in its game, but it’s always threatened by the arrivals of other semiconductor firms, including MediaTek.

At the recent MediaTek Executive Summit, the Taiwan-based semiconductor company revealed how its latest flagship mobile SoC – Dimensity 9300 – can beat Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. If you don’t know, the latter is incredibly powerful with more than 1.9 million score on AnTuTu 10.

JC Hsu, senior corporate vice president and general manager for wireless communications at MediaTek, showed that the “innovative design” of Dimensity 9300 is key in its performance and efficiency. This chipset sports an all-big-core architecture.

The design is literally four plus four, having the first four performance cores at the front for demanding tasks. The last four performance/efficiency cores are at the back for the usual daily tasks.

According to Hsu’s presentation at the Summit, Qualcomm applied the one plus five plus two architecture for Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. That’s a fact as indicated in the product brief with one Prime core, five performance cores, and two efficiency cores.

Dimensity 9300 should dispense more processing power than SD 8 Gen 3 in theory. However, it may heat more, in theory, depending on the type of app it’s working on.

Hsu also showed at the Summit the following improvements on Dimensity 9300:

  • Over 2.13 million points on AnTuTu 10 in normal condition.
  • Up to 2.2 million points on AnTuTu 10 in lab condition.
  • Up to 7,500 multi-core points on Geekbench 6 in normal condition versus the 7,000 points from SD 8 Gen 3.
  • Up to 8,000 multi-core points on Geekbench 6 in lab condition versus the 7,560 points from SD 8 Gen 3.
  • 33% lower power consumption at the same performance than Dimensity 9200.
  • 40% higher peak performance than Dimensity 9200.

Dimensity 9300 was first announced on November 6 and later debuted on vivo x100.
