The AI power of Dimensity 9300

MediaTek will set the trend of Generative AI on mobile devices using Dimensity 9300 and its APU 790 processor.

MediaTek’s current flagship Dimensity 9300 mobile SoC has several tricks, on top of higher performance than its predecessor. Its All-Big-Core chipset features the APU 790 processor, which enables AI functionalities like support for NeuroPilot Fusion.

When smartphones came out, we thought they were smart. But little did we know that the “smart” aspect only pinpointed to the clever things a smartphone can do when ordered to. That said, we still need to direct or command the device to do stuff.

But with AI, a smartphone can gain the ability to learn and “think” like a person. Thus, an AI phone is more intelligent than devices we use today.

NeuroPilot Fusion and APU 790 will pave the way for MediaTek toward AI-powered mobile experience. During the MediaTek Executive Summit, JC Hsu, senior corporate vice president and general manager for wireless communications at MediaTek, provided a simple sample on how these two work.

Since NeuroPilot Fusion supports Generative AI LoRA, Dimensity 9300 can instruct a mobile device to create dynamic emoticons of users. It can generate these emoticons and turn them into GIFs.

The sky’s the limit for the combinations. The renders can be life-like, cartoonish, or a blend of both. Besides numerous facial expressions, the AI engine can even alter many parts of the face, such as the eyebrows, lips, and nose, to turn human expressions into a GIF.

Since misinformation is rampant, MediaTek is committed to protecting users from the potential abuse and misuse of its chipsets with generative AI support. Though the implementation of user protection is yet to be fully detailed.

In the meantime, check some of the AI functionalities of Dimensity 9300 below:

  • NeuroPilot LoRA Fusion
  • NeuroPilot HW Comparison
  • Multi-mode Gen-AI models
  • Stable diffusion of less than a second

Dimensity 9300 has a configuration of four front performance and four back performance cores. This chipset debuted on vivo x100.
